How do several profit targets work in Risk Management?
- Optional: one target by default. Click Add another target for up to 5, each bigger than the last.
- Earlier targets square off and you keep trading. The last target follows When the profit target is hit.
- A fast jump past a target counts as the highest target crossed.
- Whole-day P&L only: it needs Measure P&L on set to All positions (booked + open).
When this happens
- 1 Wanting to book profit in steps during the day and keep trading.
Where to find it
Open Trading → Risk Mgmt, pick the account, and click Add another target under the profit target. Each click adds one more box, up to 5. Each target must be bigger than the one before it; the screen tells you if one is out of order.
All the examples below use one account with these settings:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Max loss | ₹10,000 |
| Profit targets | ₹2,000, ₹4,000, ₹6,000 |
| Trailing stop-loss | every ₹1,000 of profit moves the stop-loss up ₹1,000 |
| When the profit target is hit | Square off & block |
| When the stop-loss is hit | Square off & block |
P&L here means the whole day’s profit or loss: trades you closed today plus trades still open.
Targets hit one after another
| Time | Day’s P&L | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| 10:15 | +₹2,000 | Target 1 hit. Everything is squared off. ₹2,000 is booked. You can keep trading. We now watch for ₹4,000. |
| 12:30 | +₹4,000 | Target 2 hit. Squared off again. You can keep trading. We now watch for ₹6,000. |
| 14:00 | +₹6,000 | Last target hit. Squared off, and new entries are blocked for the rest of the day. |
If you set only one target, it works exactly as a single profit target.
Target 1 hit, then a stop-loss
| Time | Day’s P&L | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| 10:15 | +₹2,000 | Target 1 hit. Squared off. You keep trading. |
| 11:30 | −₹8,000 | Stop-loss hit. Squared off, and new entries are blocked for the day. |
The stop-loss was at −₹8,000 and not −₹10,000 because the trailing stop-loss was on: the day’s profit had reached ₹2,000, so the stop-loss had moved up by ₹2,000. Without trailing, it would have stayed at −₹10,000.
A fast jump past a target
Prices can move a lot between two checks. If the day’s P&L jumps from +₹3,500 straight to +₹6,500, it has crossed target 2 and the last target together. We treat it as the highest target crossed, here the last one: squared off, and blocked for the day. A jump past two earlier targets squares off once, not twice.
Things to know
- All positions only. Several targets need Measure P&L on: All positions (booked + open). On Only open positions the screen turns them off.
- Warn me only: if the target is set to Warn me only or Block new entries only, earlier targets only send you an alert. Nothing is squared off.
- Emails: each target and each square-off sends its own email, listing all your targets.
- Live status on the Risk Mgmt screen shows which target is next.
- Daily reset: targets start fresh every trading day.
- Automatic square-off places real exit orders and works only after you agree to the terms. See Risk Management.
