Why do I have to confirm an order I place with the Enter key?

In short
  • Enter places an order on the Trade screen, from any box on the form. It always did, and it does not depend on Keyboard mode.
  • A confirmation box now opens first, listing side, symbol, quantity, price, order type and accounts.
  • Cancel is selected for you. A second Enter closes the box. It does not send the order.
  • Applies to Enter and Ctrl+Enter. Clicking BUY or SELL is unchanged and places the order straight away.
  • It cannot be turned off. It is there to stop an order you did not mean to send.

Why the box appears

On the Trade screen, pressing Enter in any box on the order form places the order. That has always been the case, and it does not depend on Keyboard mode being switched on.

It is easier to trigger than most people expect. After you pick a symbol, the cursor is left in the price box, ready for you to type. If you then press Enter, out of habit or to finish typing a number, the order goes out.

To stop that, a keyboard submit now asks you to confirm first.

What the confirmation box shows

The box lists everything that matters about the order before it leaves your screen:

LineWhat it tells you
ActionBUY or SELL
SymbolThe contract, and which exchange it belongs to
Total qtyThe total quantity, and how many accounts it is spread across
PriceYour limit price, or Market
OrderThe variety, order type and product, for example REGULAR, LIMIT, DELIVERY
AccountsThe accounts or groups the order will reach

The Confirm button is green for a BUY and red for a SELL, so the direction is clear at a glance.

A second Enter cancels, it does not confirm

Cancel is selected for you when the box opens. This is deliberate.

If you press Enter twice in quick succession, the second press lands on the confirmation box. With Cancel selected, that press closes the box and no order is sent. You would have to move to the Confirm button and choose it yourself.

Clicking BUY or SELL has not changed

Clicking the BUY or SELL button with your mouse places the order straight away, exactly as before. Clicking that button is already a deliberate choice, so nothing extra is asked of you.

The confirmation is only for orders submitted from the keyboard.

Which keys ask for confirmation

KeysWhat happens
EnterConfirmation box opens, then the order is placed if you confirm
Ctrl + EnterThe same
Click BUY or SELLOrder is placed straight away

For the rest of the keyboard shortcuts, see Keyboard Shortcuts.

Large orders ask as well

Separately from this, a very large order asks you to confirm however you submit it, including by mouse. That threshold is yours to set: Settings, General, under Large Order Threshold (INR). See General settings.

If an order is both large and submitted with the keyboard, you get one confirmation box carrying both, not two boxes in a row. It shows the estimated turnover and your threshold alongside the order details.

Can I turn the confirmation off?

No. There is no setting for it.

It exists to prevent a real trade that you did not mean to place, and a single keypress is too easy to hit by accident for that to be optional. If the extra step slows you down, the fastest route is still the mouse: fill the form with the keyboard, then click BUY or SELL.
