I changed a group multiplier but my option sizes did not change

In short

The Options screen no longer takes its sizes from your account groups. It takes them from an allocation you save on that screen, so editing a group in Settings does not change what it trades. Nothing was lost: your existing sizes were copied once into an allocation called My group sizes, each account keeping its group's multiplier. To change one, open Trading then Options, click Qty. Allocations, click Edit, change the number and save. Your groups are unchanged elsewhere.

When this happens

  1. 1 The Options screen now takes its sizes from an allocation saved on that screen, not from your account groups.
  2. 2 The change was made because a group carries one multiplier for everybody in it, so sizing each account differently meant creating a separate group for each account.
  3. 3 Your old sizes were copied once into an allocation called My group sizes, and edits to a group no longer reach it.

What changed

The Options screen used to take each account’s size from the group that account belonged to. It no longer does.

It now takes the size from an allocation — a named list you save on the Options screen itself, holding both which accounts trade and how much each one trades.

So editing a group in Settings changes nothing on the Options screen any more. Everywhere else in the software, your groups work exactly as they did before.

Nothing was lost

The first time you opened the Options screen after this change, your existing sizes were copied into an allocation called My group sizes.

Every account kept the multiplier its group was set to, so the amount you trade did not change. You do not have to set anything up again.

How to change a size now

  1. Open Trading → Options.
  2. Click Qty. Allocations on the basket, next to the leg table.
  3. Click Edit beside the allocation you want to change.
  4. Change the number against that account and click Save allocation.

The running total at the bottom shows how many lots one leg will place across the whole allocation, so you can check the figure before you save.

Why it changed

A group carries one multiplier for everybody inside it. If you wanted two accounts to trade different sizes, the only way was to put each one in a group of its own — which is why many users ended up with a long list of groups holding a single account each.

An allocation holds a size against each account, so one allocation does the work of many of those groups. It also lets you keep more than one: a common set-up is one allocation for ordinary days and a smaller one for expiry day, when margin is higher.

Two things worth checking

An account that was in two groups of different sizes starts at 1×. There was no single size to copy, so it was left at the base size. Those accounts already showed 1× on the Options screen before this change, so nothing is different — but they are worth setting deliberately now.

An account you tick by hand, that is not in the allocation you picked, trades at 1×. The Multiplier and Lots columns on the confirm step always show what will actually be placed, so check them before you place.
