How to make one leg of an option basket trade a bigger size
- Type into the quantity box on the leg, then press Tab or Enter. One action, whatever the number.
- Or press + once per multiple. With the basket at 100, one press takes a leg from 100 to 200.
- A leg trades a whole multiple of the basket size, so 100, 200 or 300 when the basket is 100.
- A bigger leg is marked, so a leg that trades twice the basket size is easy to spot.
- Resizing the basket keeps the ratio. 100 and 200 become 50 and 100 when you set the basket to 50.
- It refuses instead of rounding. A number that is not a whole multiple is named, with the way to get it.
When this happens
- 1 You want one leg of a structure to trade a bigger size than the others — a ratio spread, or a wing you want more of — without changing the rest of the basket.
You have built a structure on the Options screen and want one leg to trade a bigger size than the others, without changing the rest of the basket.
The quantity on every leg row is a box you can type into.
The two places size is set
The box above the basket sets the size for the whole basket. It is labelled Lots or Qty depending on your commodity setting, and every leg starts at that size.
The box on each leg row sets that one leg. It sits between a − button and a + button, and you can type into it directly.
Change one leg
Click the leg’s quantity box, type the number you want, and press Tab or Enter. The other legs are left alone.
You can also use the buttons. Each press is one whole multiple of the basket size, not one lot. So with the basket at 100, one press of + takes that leg from 100 to 200, and − takes it back.
A leg trading more than once the basket size carries a small marker, so you can see which leg is the bigger one without reading every row.
What a leg is allowed to trade
A leg trades a whole multiple of the basket size. With the basket at 100, a leg can trade 100, 200, 300 and so on.
If you type something else, the screen refuses and tells you what you can have. Ask for 150 on a basket of 100 and it says the leg can trade 100 or 200, and that setting the basket to 50 would let you have 150. Your basket is left exactly as it was.
That rule is what keeps a ratio exact when you save it and load it again later. A size that was quietly rounded on the way into storage would come back as a structure you did not build.
A leg cannot trade less than the basket size either. To go smaller, lower the basket size first — every leg follows.
Resizing the basket keeps the ratio
Change the box above the basket and every leg is recalculated from its own multiple, not flattened to one number.
So a basket of 100 with legs of 100, 200 and 100 becomes 50, 100 and 50 when you set the basket to 50. The shape you built survives the resize.
The same is true of the shape controls. Changing Width, Wing, a delta, or inverting the structure rebuilds the strikes and leaves each leg’s multiple where you put it.
Picking a different template is not the same. It builds new legs, so every leg goes back to the basket size, and anything you typed in the Target & SL columns is cleared. The panel tells you when this happens.
What it does to a saved basket
A saved basket stores each leg’s multiple rather than its quantity, alongside the rule for its strike.
So a basket you saved with one leg at twice the size comes back that way, and stays that way when you resize it after loading. Load it with a different basket size and the whole structure scales with you.
