"Live updates are running in your other windows" on the Portfolio screen
- Nothing is broken. Only live price ticking is paused in that window — tables, orders and buttons all work normally.
- The notice tells you how many other windows are already streaming, so you know exactly how many to close.
- Hidden and minimised windows free their slot automatically after about a minute, so the notice usually clears on its own.
- Close a window you are not using and the waiting one connects by itself within a few seconds.
- A window on a second monitor still counts as in use — you will not lose live prices just because it is not the focused window.
- Restoring a previous browsing session can quietly reopen several Portfolio windows at once; that is the most common cause.
When this happens
- 1 The Portfolio screen is open in more windows or tabs than one login can stream at the same time.
- 2 Your browser restored a previous session and reopened several Portfolio tabs together.
- 3 The same login is open on another device, such as a phone or a second computer.
- 4 A minimised or background window is still holding a slot, if it has been hidden for less than a minute.
What the notice means
Prices on the Portfolio screen tick live. To do that, each open Portfolio window keeps a live connection to us, and one login can keep a limited number of these running at the same time.
When you open the Portfolio in more windows than that, the newest window cannot get a live connection, so it shows this notice:
Live updates are running in 4 other windows. This one will connect when one closes.
The number in the message is how many other windows are already streaming for your login, so you know exactly how many you are running.
Nothing is broken in that window
This is the part worth knowing: the window showing the notice still works. Your tables load, your orders and positions are there, and every button — placing an order, squaring off, cancelling — behaves normally.
The only thing paused is the live ticking of prices in that one window. Click Refresh and you get current data as usual.
What to do
Usually, nothing.
- Wait a moment. A Portfolio window you are not looking at — minimised, or a tab sitting behind another — gives up its slot by itself after about a minute. The waiting window then connects on its own.
- Or close a window you are not using. The waiting one picks up the free slot within a few seconds.
You do not need to log out, clear anything, or reload the page.
Why it happens when you think only one tab is open
The most common cause is a browser session restore. If your browser is set to reopen the tabs from last time, it can quietly bring back several Portfolio tabs at once when you start it — and every one of them takes a slot, even the ones you never looked at.
Other common causes:
- The same login open on a second device, such as your phone or another computer.
- A Portfolio window minimised or left open on another desktop.
A window sitting visible on a second monitor counts as in use and keeps its live prices — you will not lose ticking just because it is not the window you are typing in.
Why there is a limit at all
Every open window that streams live prices is a separate live connection. Without a limit, one login with many windows left open could hold far more connections than it needs, which slows things down for that login and everyone else. Keeping the number small is what keeps live prices fast for you.
