Why is my Zerodha profit or loss different from the Kite app?

In short
  • For Zerodha equity and F&O positions, we now calculate the profit or loss ourselves, using the live market price.
  • Risk management uses the same figure, so your stop-loss and target follow the live market price.
  • In a fast market, our number can differ a little from the Kite app for a short time. This is normal.
  • Booked profit or loss is the same in both once a position is closed.
  • Commodity positions still use Zerodha's figure for now.
  • You do not need to do anything. Nothing changes in your account or your orders.

When this happens

  1. 1 The market moved quickly, and the figure in the Kite app had not caught up with the live price yet.
  2. 2 Our screen and the Kite app refreshed a few seconds apart, so each shows the price at a slightly different moment.
  3. 3 The contract trades rarely, so its last traded price can be some time old on either side.

What changed

From 8 October 2026, for Zerodha accounts, the profit or loss of your equity and F&O positions comes from our own calculation.

We work it out from your position (your quantity and your average buy and sell price) and the live market price of the contract.

Before this, we showed the profit or loss figure that Zerodha sends along with your positions.

This applies to these columns on the Positions screen:

  • PnL
  • M2M
  • Real PL and Unreal PL

Why we changed it

Your broker sends its own profit or loss figure each time we read your positions. In a fast market, that figure can take some time to catch up with the live price.

Our own figure follows the live market price. So it shows where your position really stands, even when prices are moving quickly.

This matters most for Risk Management. A late figure could make your stop-loss or target act late, or act at the wrong time.

Does this affect my stop-loss or target?

Yes, in a good way. Risk management now uses this same figure for your Zerodha equity and F&O positions.

So your loss limit and profit target are checked against the live market price, not against a figure that may be a little behind.

Why the Kite app can show a different number

The Kite app shows Zerodha’s own figure. Our screen shows ours. Both start from the same position, but they may use the price from slightly different moments.

When prices are steady, the two numbers are the same or very close.

When prices move fast, for example on an expiry day or right after big news, they can differ a little for a short time. On options, where prices move quickly, the gap can look larger in rupees.

Once you close a position, the booked profit or loss is the same in both. At that point there is no live price left to compare, only the prices you actually traded at.

Commodity positions

Commodity positions on Zerodha accounts still use Zerodha’s figure for now. We will move them over later, after more testing.

What if our figure looks wrong?

We check our own figure all the time. If it ever fails our checks, we use Zerodha’s figure for that position instead.

If you still see a number that looks wrong, please contact us with the account, the contract and the time. We will check it.

Do I need to do anything?

No. Nothing changes in your account, your orders or your settings.
