Orders are blocked

In short

You get this error when your stock broker has disabled trading for that scrip. AutoTrader Web never blocks orders. The broker's risk team (RMS) sets these limits on volatile or illiquid scrips. The error clears on its own once the broker allows trading in that scrip again.

When this happens

  1. 1 Illiquid scrips.
  2. 2 Heavy volatility expected in markets (in events like war or election results, etc.).
  3. 3 Highly volatile scrips.
  4. 4 Scrips that have recently hit circuit limits.

What this error means

Your broker has blocked trading for the scrip you tried to trade. The block can show up in any of these forms:

  • Intraday product blocked for certain scrips
  • Entering MARKET or SL_MARKET orders for options when they are blocked by your broker (mostly seen in F&O)
  • Trading blocked for certain option strike prices
  • Bracket or Cover orders are blocked for certain scrips
  • Intraday trading blocked for far month futures (those that are not the closest to current date)
  • Buy orders are not allowed for stock options due to compulsory physical delivery. Try next month’s expiry.

Solution

AutoTrader Web never puts restrictions on orders. The block comes from your stock broker’s RMS (risk management) team. They normally restrict certain scrips for the reasons listed above.

Once your broker starts allowing trading in these scrips, you will stop getting this error. For more details, contact your stock broker’s customer care.
