Unknown error from your trading platform

In short

This error means your trading platform (your stock broker's server) returned a fault we cannot decode. We do not have access to the broker's servers, so we cannot see the details. First check whether the failed operation actually ran (refresh your orders). If it did not run, simply retry it. If the error keeps coming back, contact us.

What this error means

On rare occasions, your broker’s server returns an error with very little detail attached. We cannot find out more about it, because we do not have access to the broker’s servers.

Your broker’s support team can look deeper. But these are technical errors, and they are hard to explain to a helpdesk. Helpdesk staff are usually non-technical, so this kind of error often needs a developer or a Level 3 technical support person to investigate.

Solution 1: Verify, then retry

  1. Verify that the failed operation (for example, an order) did not actually execute. Refresh your orders to check.
    • On very rare occasions, the broker’s server gives an error even though the operation succeeded. A broker runs many internal systems, and an operation like placing an order passes through several of them. If one system fails, the order can still go through while the system that builds the response reports an error.
  2. After you confirm the operation did not succeed, simply retry it.

Solution 2: Get help

  1. Contact us to see if we can assist.
  2. If needed, we will work with you to co-ordinate with your broker and find a solution.
