Zerodha: Your order could not be converted to an After Market Order (AMO)

In short

This error comes from Zerodha, not from AutoTrader Web. Zerodha has an Auto AMO feature that automatically turns a regular order placed outside market hours into an After Market Order (AMO). You see this message when that automatic conversion fails, because the order you placed is not allowed as an AMO. AMO does not accept every order type, product or instrument. To fix it, place the order during market hours, or change the order so it follows Zerodha's AMO rules — for example, use a simple regular order instead of a special order type.

When this happens

  1. 1 You placed the order outside market hours, so Zerodha tried to convert it to an AMO automatically.
  2. 2 The order type, product or instrument you used is not allowed as an AMO by Zerodha.

What this error means

This error comes from Zerodha, not from AutoTrader Web. Zerodha has an Auto AMO feature. When you place a regular order while the market is closed, Zerodha automatically tries to turn it into an After Market Order (AMO).

You see this message when that automatic conversion fails. It does not mean the market is closed and you must wait. It means the order you placed is not allowed as an AMO. AMO does not accept every order type, product or instrument.

Solution

You can fix this in one of two ways:

  • Place the order again during market hours, when no AMO conversion is needed.
  • If you want it to go through as an AMO outside market hours, place a simple regular order that Zerodha accepts as an AMO. Avoid special order types and check Zerodha’s AMO rules for which orders, products and instruments are allowed.
