In short
This error comes from your stock broker, not from AutoTrader Web. The broker rejects the order because you tried to place it when the market was closed. To fix it, place an AMO (After Market Order) or wait for the market to open.
Why this happens
AutoTrader Web does not reject orders during non-market hours. The order goes to your broker, and the broker returns this error when you try to place it outside market hours.
Solution
You have two options:
- Place an AMO (After Market Order).
- Wait for the market to open, then place the order.
Timings changed from 3 August 2026
Market timings are not the same for every segment now. F&O trades till 3.40 pm, while most stocks close at 3.30 pm. So an order can be rejected as closed in one segment while another segment is still open. See Market timings.
