Market timings: F&O now closes at 3.40 pm

In short

The Indian stock exchanges changed market timings from 3 August 2026. The F&O segment now trades till 3.40 pm instead of 3.30 pm. Stocks that have F&O contracts trade normally till 3.15 pm and then go into a closing auction that runs till 3.35 pm, and that auction decides their closing price. All other stocks are unchanged and still close at 3.30 pm. Commodity timings are unchanged. Many brokers have also moved their intraday auto square-off earlier, to around 3.10 pm, so please confirm the exact time with your broker. If you use master-child copy trading, check your Copy End Time: new master accounts now default to 3.40 pm, but master accounts you created earlier keep the time you saved.

What changed from 3 August 2026

The Indian stock exchanges changed market timings. Here is what is different.

  • F&O closes later. The F&O segment now trades till 3.40 pm. Earlier it was 3.30 pm.
  • Stocks that have F&O contracts close differently. They trade normally till 3.15 pm. After that they go into a closing auction that runs till 3.35 pm. The auction decides the closing price of the stock.
  • All other stocks are unchanged. They still close at 3.30 pm.
  • Commodity timings are unchanged. The commodity segment still runs late into the evening.

Market opening time has not changed.

Why are my intraday positions squared off earlier now?

Many brokers have moved their intraday auto square-off earlier. For stocks that go into the closing auction, it now starts from around 3.10 pm.

This time is set by your broker, not by us and not by the exchange. Every broker can choose its own time. Please confirm the exact time with your broker.

What should I check in copy trading?

Open Accounts → Master Accounts, open your master account, and check the Copy End Time.

  • New master accounts now default to 3.40 pm, so the full F&O session is covered.
  • Master accounts you created earlier keep the time you saved. If it still shows 3.30 pm, copying will stop before the F&O session ends.

Then set it based on how you trade.

  • You trade F&O positionally: set it to 3.40 pm to cover the full session.
  • You trade intraday: keep it before your broker’s auto square-off time. If you do not, your broker’s square-off orders will also be copied to your child accounts.
  • You trade commodities: keep your evening time as it is. A time of 3.40 pm will stop copying long before the commodity market closes.

See Master-Child Copy Trading for the full setting.

Why did my order get rejected after 3.30 pm?

Between 3.30 pm and 3.40 pm, only the F&O segment is still open. A cash order placed in that window can be rejected by your broker, because that segment is closed for the day.

This rejection comes from your broker, not from AutoTrader Web. See Markets are closed.

Do I need to change anything else in AutoTrader Web?

No. AutoTrader Web follows the new timings on its own. The only setting you may want to review is the Copy End Time in master-child copy trading, as explained above.
