Session expired

In short

This rare error appears when a manual login to your trading account invalidates AutoTrader Web's session. The fix is simple: retry the order first, because AutoTrader Web reconnects automatically. If that fails, log out of your broker platform and open any tab in AutoTrader Web to refresh the connection.

When this happens

  1. 1 A manual login to your trading account invalidated the AutoTrader Web session, on platforms that do not allow multiple logins into the same account.
  2. 2 For Kotak, the Access Token is invalid or expired.
  3. 3 For Angel One, an invalid or expired session token (errors AG8001 and AG8002).
  4. 4 For Upstox, an invalid or expired access token (error UDAPI100050, "Invalid token used to access API").
  5. 5 For Motilal Oswal, an invalid session or unrecognized token.
  6. 6 For IIFL (new Markets API), an expired daily access token (the broker returns a 401).
  7. 7 For Aliceblue, an expired daily access token (error EC087, "Session Expired").

Why this error happens

This error is rare. The main cause is a manual login to your trading account, which invalidates the AutoTrader Web session for that account.

Some platforms, such as Zerodha, Aliceblue, Mastertrust and Finvasia, do not allow multiple logins into the same account. If your account is already being used from AutoTrader Web, then AutoTrader Web already has an active session. A manual login will end the AutoTrader Web session and cause this error.

Kotak users may see this error when the Access Token is invalid or expired.

Please check the broker-specific limitations. If your platform does not allow parallel login, then you (or your client) must not log in to the broker’s trading platform at the same time.

Solution

AutoTrader Web is designed to reconnect automatically. So the first thing to do is retry the order.

If you logged in manually on Finvasia, Aliceblue, Mastertrust or Zerodha, then do the following:

  • Finish your work on your trading platform
  • Log out from the trading platform
  • Log in to AutoTrader Web
  • Go to any of these tabs on the main dashboard: orders, positions or margins
  • This makes sure AutoTrader Web reconnects to your account

Broker-specific notes

  • Angel One users: errors AG8001 (Invalid Token) and AG8002 (Token Expired) mean the session token is no longer valid. Angel One also resets API sessions once every morning. You do not need to do anything for this — AutoTrader Web reconnects on its own. Just retry the order.
  • Upstox users: error UDAPI100050 (“Invalid token used to access API”) means the session token is no longer valid. Upstox also expires the token once a day. AutoTrader Web reconnects on its own — just retry the order.
  • Motilal Oswal users: an “invalid session” or “unrecognized token” message means the same thing. The token expires once a day; retry the order and AutoTrader Web reconnects.
  • IIFL users: a 401 / “unauthorized” usually means the daily access token has expired. The token expires once a day. AutoTrader Web reconnects on its own — just retry the order.
  • Aliceblue users: error EC087 (“Session Expired”) usually means the daily access token has expired. The token expires once a day, and AutoTrader Web reconnects on its own — just retry the order. Also avoid logging in to the Aliceblue app or website with the same account while AutoTrader Web is running, as that can end the session.
  • Dhan users: if the error is about an invalid or expired token during login, see Dhan login errors.
  • Zerodha Kite users: please refer to this knowledge base article.
  • Finvasia Shoonya users: please refer to the Finvasia broker guide.
  • Kotak users: check that your Access Token is correct and not expired. Set the access token validity period to minus 2 (-2), which means infinite validity. For more details, see the Kotak broker guide.
